Printable version, Click here

Online poker rules for Five Card Stud Online poker are similar to the online poker rules that apply to Seven Card Stud Online poker. The difference is simply that in Five Card Stud Online poker, each individual player plays with 5 cards, while in Seven Card Stud Online poker, you play with 7 cards.

1. Object of the game:

To achieve the best poker hand or to make the other players give up. If you do this, you win the pot.

2. Online poker rules in short:

Each online poker player can create their best online poker hand from 5 cards.

  • There are 4 open cards, which all players can see
  • Each player has one closed card

3. The game begins

Everyone who wants to take part in the game must pay an Ante (starting amount) to the pot. The Ante is often 10% of the minimum bet, but the minimum is only $0.25.

4. The first cards are dealt

Each player receives 1 closed card and 1 open card. The game starts.

5. Betting round 1

The online poker player with the lowest online poker hand makes the first call. He must make a Bring-In of ½ times the minimum bet unless he chooses to give up and leave the game. The other players can now Complete and thereby add towards the minimum bet. They can also Raise, Call or Fold. You can usually only raise up to 3 times in the round. The round is finished when all players have put the same amount into the pot.
In a game of Five Card Stud Online poker, all bets in betting round 1 equal the minimum bet.
Example: If playing at a $10/$20 online poker table, you put in $10 for a Call/Bet and a further $10 for a Raise.

6. A third card is dealt

All active players receive another open card. Now everyone has 2 open cards and one closed.

7. Betting round 2

The remaining players start a new betting round. The online poker player with the highest open poker hand starts. He can Bet, Check, Call, Raise or Fold. It is custom to only raise 3 times in a round. The round is finished when all players have put the same amount into the pot.
In a game of Five Card Stud Online poker Limit, all bets in betting round 2 equal the minimum bet. (NB: If an online poker player in his 2 open cards has a pair, then all players have the option to choose the maximum bet instead.)
Example: If playing at a $10/$20 online poker table, you put in $10 for a Call/Bet and a further $10 for a Raise.

8. A fourth card is dealt

All active players receive another open card. All players each have one closed and 3 open cards.

9. Betting round 3

The active/remaining players start a new betting round and the player with the highest open poker hand starts. Standard online poker terms apply, i.e. Bet, Check, Call, Raise or Fold. You can usually only raise up to 3 times in the round. The round finishes when all players who have chosen to remain in the game have paid in the same amount to the pot on the online poker table.
In a game of Five Card Stud Online poker Limit, all bets in betting round 3 equal the maximum bet.
Example: If playing at a $10/$20 online poker table, you put in $20 for a Call/Bet and a further $20 for a Raise.

10. A fifth card is dealt

All active players receive another open card. All players each have one closed and 4 open cards.

11. Betting round 4

The online poker player with the highest online poker hand starts by Betting, Checking, Calling, Raising or Folding. You can usually only raise up to 3 times in the round. The round finishes when all players have put the same amount into the pot.
In a game of Five Card Stud Online poker Limit, all bets in betting round 4 equal the maximum bet.
Example: If playing at a $10/$20 online poker table, you put in $20 for a Call/Bet and a further $20 for a Raise.

12. Showdown – the winner is selected

The online poker players take turns to reveal their closed cards. The player with the best online poker hand, when his personal closed card is combined with his 4 open cards, wins the WHOLE POT. In case of a draw, the pot is split.
